Destroying all in the name of art, Adam Cuthbert makes photographs that sit at the uneasy interface between carnage and play. His remarkably plausible battlefield dioramas are created using thousands of handcrafted plasticine figures and shot in his back yard in Hobart. The work evokes and critiques the equivocal relation we have to the horror and tumult of war in the electronic age. Caught between the exhilarating but insubstantial world of virtual gaming and the slick packaging of broadcast media, for those safely removed from it, images of war can all too easily become a kind of pornography of violence.
