The
Artist Abroad
28
March - 27 April,
2003
Tue - Sun: 11.00am - 6.00pm
Galleries One, Two and Foyer
Joachim Froese, Queensland
Lynne Roberts-Goodwin, New South Wales
Rose Farrell & George Parkin,
Victoria
The artists showing in these three interlocking
exhibitions have very different practices but share
one thing in common - they all made the work whilst
on an overseas residency. Joachim Froese spent 2002
in Barcelona developing the next phase in his
Rhopography series, which employs
art-historical aesthetics and the still-life genre
to elevate the forgotten trifles of the everyday.
In contrast, Lynne Roberts-Goodwin's large-scale
colour images present the hunting falcons of the
Arabian desert on a grand scale - part aerial
aristocrat, part leather-clad larrikin. Meanwhile,
in Gallery Two, the internationally renowned
artistic duo of Rose Farrell & George Parkin
show new video and photo-work, developed on their
residency in Beijing, which reflects upon the
traditional Chinese medical exercises of Qi
Gong.
